Bill Lawing received his BA from Davidson College and his DMA and MM from The Cleveland Institute of Music. Returning to Davidson to join the faculty, he taught there for 46 years as the Estes Millner Professor of Music before retiring in June, 2022. He is continuing to perform actively, as a permanent member of the Western Piedmont Symphony and the North Carolina Brass Band. He is also continuing to serve as the Artistic Director of the Traditional Music Series at Davidson, which is the source of this class. He is active in the Charlotte refugee volunteer community as a college counselor, and he is grateful to have the additional time to devote to his 5 - soon to be 6 - grandchildren, all of whom live in Davidson and Mooresville.
