About the Event
Many had dreamed of flying, but it took two bicycle mechanics from Dayton, Ohio to make that dream a reality. On December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright made the first powered flight in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The Wright brothers were self-taught geniuses with no financial backing. With only the income from their bicycle shop and a determination to solve the mysteries of flight, they made history on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
Katie Edwards is the Curator of Popular Culture at the North Carolina Museum of History. She will speak to us about the Wright brothers and their historic achievement. Katie specializes in the history of popular culture and art in North Carolina, including films and television, travel and tourism, toys, visual arts and, of course, the Wright brothers.
