About the Event
Rose Stremlau, Ph.D. will provide a brief overview of the history of Native people in the Catawba River region and the role of Davidson College founders in their dispossession. She will then discuss the college's ongoing collaboration with the Catawba Nation, including how community members can participate in volunteer opportunities and events featuring Indigenous authors, artists, scholars, and chefs.
This collaboration supports the Catawba Nation’s expansion of agricultural production, broadens cultural understanding around Indigenous foods, and reintroduces kus iswq into the diets of citizens of the Catawba Nation, based in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
